The objective of the society is to promote research and teaching in the history of science in the context of India through the ages. Here the term science includes also technology, environment and medicine. The term history includes history in all possible dimensions, i.e., multiple histories. Thus, the said society focuses on histories of science, technology, environment and medicine (HISTEM).
Activities of the Society: -
1. To establish and strengthen the linkages between other institutions and organizations interested in history of science leading to greater appreciation of the role of history of science in the society.
2. To encourage institutions, organizations, private persons to keep/ maintain records and digitization of the documents.
3. To encourage and help institutes, organizations, laboratories, workshops to keep record of instruments used by scientists and engineers and encourage display of indigenous instruments.
4. To encourage and help the universities to develop curriculum in the history of science, technology, environment and medicine (HISTEM).
5. To publish or to help publication of books, edited volumes, journals, newsletter and other useful literature towards the attainment of the object of the Society.
